My Weekend Read: The Noticer by Andy Andrews

Just got my advance copy of The Noticer by Andy Andrews. I’ll be writing a review along with other bloggers later in the month when the book comes out. I’m planning on reading it over the extended weekend.
Here’s an excerpt from the back cover:
Poverty. A failing marriage. Old age. Lost dreams. A failing business. An unsure future. To the residents of Orange Beach, Alabama, these desperations are dead ends. Hopeless, barren places with no chance of change.
But to an old drifter named Jones with a gift for seeing what others miss, there is no such thing as a dead end. It only takes a little “perspective,” he says, to recognize the miracles in our moments, the seeds of greatness tucked into our struggles.
As Jones mysteriously makes his way through this coastal town and into the searching hearts of its residents, he offers simple wisdom and sound hope.
“My content is that you are right where you are supposed to be. This may look like barren sand to you, but nothing could be further from the truth. I say to you that as you lay your head down tonight, you are sleeping on furtile ground. Thank, learn, pray, plan, dream. For soon ... you will become.”
I read The Traveler’s Gift several years back. My uncle gave it to me as a gift and I really enjoyed it. It is one of those allegorical tales that is interesting in and of itself, but carries some weighty thoughts below the surface. I’m fully expecting The Noticer to have the same effect.
I had a chance to hear Andy Andrews last year at an event that GiANT puts on called The Maximum Impact Simulcast. It is a live event here in Atlanta, with 10 top leaders/speakers from around the country, which is broadcast to hundreds of churches, businesses, universities and communities around the world.
Andy was one of the keynote speakers at last year’s event. He spoke on some of the principles found in The Traveler’s Gift. Here’s a quick snippet of his talk from the event:

For more information about the simulcast, including locations near you, you can visit the official site. I’d highly recommend it as there are some top-notch speakers on the slate again this year.

What Are Thin Places?
"Thin Places" are rich in Celtic tradition. They are the places in our lives where the divine and the natural worlds come so close together that we can catch a glimpse of God. For the Celtics these places were very real - places within creation where we could physically go. The Thin Places in our own lives are those moments where the space between us & the Kingdom is thin, when we are introduced to a greater glimpse of Who He is through our experiences and through the stories of others.
