Not Just a Hobby

I live a very rewards-driven life. I’m not sure how I really got there, but it’s my reality now.
I tell my boys all the time, “You do what you need to do before you do what you want to do.” It’s part of growing up. It’s part of responsibility - realizing that I can delay my own gratification for the benefit of others and for the sake of stepping into our own responsibilities.
I think I’ve crossed a line, though. I realized this weekend that my approach to writing/blogging has suffered because of this mentality. My writing has always been ebb and flow. Now I’m beginning to realize why.
I have always viewed writing as sort of a ‘perk’ in life - something that I get to do once my other responsibilities are out of the way. When life is slower paced, I write more. When life is hectic, I write less (if at all). I could probably plot a path over the last couple of years and match my writing habits with what was occurring in my life at the time.
I need to recognize the importance of writing. Recognize how it feeds me, fuels me, drives me. By making it part of “what I need to do” rather than simply “what I want to do.”
So, here’s to fresh starts - we’ll see how well it sticks.

What Are Thin Places?
"Thin Places" are rich in Celtic tradition. They are the places in our lives where the divine and the natural worlds come so close together that we can catch a glimpse of God. For the Celtics these places were very real - places within creation where we could physically go. The Thin Places in our own lives are those moments where the space between us & the Kingdom is thin, when we are introduced to a greater glimpse of Who He is through our experiences and through the stories of others.
