One Down, Four to Go

Doing a little reflecting this morning. Last year I wrote on “My 35 List: 5 Things I Want to Do in the Next 5 Years” in celebration of my 35th birthday. It thought it would be good to look back and see how I’m doing after checking off one of those five years…
- Write a book - I’ve slowly started on this. Scratched out a general outline last year. I’ve committed with my brother-in-law to have at least four chapters written by August 1st.
- Have a written plan for my boys - Made good progress here. The boys and I are going to be spending weekly time during the summer in between their 11th and 12th birthdays going through a book(s) together - most likely something I’ve read on my own previously that I bring to their level. Josiah and I start this week (since we’ve been on vacation earlier this month). We’ll be walking through Integrity by Dr. Henry Cloud. More on that later. Then, in between their 12th and 13th birthdays we’ll be meeting weekly and going through a still-to-be-determined plan encompassing spiritual/emotional/service/physical goals. When they turn 13 I’ve told them I’ll take them anywhere in the continental US that they want to go for a trip just with me and them to celebrate.
- Travel abroad - No progress here. I’d love to celebrate our anniversary one year soon with a trip overseas.
- See a shuttle launch - No progress here. I know I need to move on this soon, though, as they aren’t going to be doing shuttle launches for much longer.
- Read an average of 16 books a year - Accomplished this in 7 months last year. On track to hit the goal much sooner this year. I think I’m going to wind up having to increase the number of books.
What about you? What’s on your bucket list right now?

What Are Thin Places?
"Thin Places" are rich in Celtic tradition. They are the places in our lives where the divine and the natural worlds come so close together that we can catch a glimpse of God. For the Celtics these places were very real - places within creation where we could physically go. The Thin Places in our own lives are those moments where the space between us & the Kingdom is thin, when we are introduced to a greater glimpse of Who He is through our experiences and through the stories of others.
