The Summer of George
Today is the last day of school for the kids. They’re excited about being able to stay up later, sleep in longer, play everyday, no homework, etc.
In reality, though, I’m not sure who is more excited - them or me.
For me, no school means… no going through the motions of getting everyone to bed early, getting everyone up on time, getting breakfast ready, spurring the kids on as they get ready for school so we can get out of the door at a decent time, waiting in lines to drop them off, fighting school traffic on my way to work, etc.
In short - I feel like I’m getting part of my day back, and an important part for me as well.
I feel kind of like George Castanza in “The Summer of George” - faced with a period of time where there are more possibilities & opportunities open. If I’m not careful, though, I’m afraid I’ll wind up looking back at the end of it realizing that I didn’t take full advantage of the time.
So, I’m focused & determined to make the most of the extra time afforded to me. Time I plan to use to draw deeper with God, get back into a healthy rhythm of writing and reading, and, possibly, to get back into a good exercise routine.

What Are Thin Places?
"Thin Places" are rich in Celtic tradition. They are the places in our lives where the divine and the natural worlds come so close together that we can catch a glimpse of God. For the Celtics these places were very real - places within creation where we could physically go. The Thin Places in our own lives are those moments where the space between us & the Kingdom is thin, when we are introduced to a greater glimpse of Who He is through our experiences and through the stories of others.

Good to see you ready to enjoy more free time and sounds like you have great plans. Funny post….I feel the same way! I actually said the same thing “I declare this the summer of dave!” when I was at home last weekend. This summer has the potential to be the best in in years and the best I’ll have for a long time! Nothing but laying by the pool, fishing and golfing whenever I want.
