Baptizing Micah in the Atlantic
Halfway through a week-long vacation with all of my family (my dad & his wife, my sister & family, and our family), we had a great experience at the beach yesterday. My 9 year old, Micah, has been wanting to be baptized for a little while. We’ve been talking about it over the course of the last several months and decided last month that it would be great to baptize him in the Atlantic with all his family around.
So, we got up yesterday morning, headed to the beach, and had a time of celebration to start the day!
Here’s the video. I’ve posted the words that were spoken underneath as they are hard to hear with the waves crashing in the background.
Baptism is an important part of our lives as Christians. It is something that Jesus, Himself, did, and told His followers to do as well. It is where we take our decision to follow Him and show those around us in our lives that we have given our lives to Him.
Our faith is not a private faith. It is not simply something we choose on our own and then practice when others aren’t around. It is something that affects every part of our lives. Our lives, as Christians, should continually point people to God because of how we live.
Our faith is something that God intended to be lived out in community - with other Christians. Today you have chosen to be baptized both in the presence of the people here on this beach, but also with your family surrounding you. We will be here to love and support you, to help guide your life as you follow Christ. We also will need you, your own love, support, and guidance as we journey together.
Micah, today, by being baptized here in this place, are you telling others that you have given your life to God and have chosen to follow Him in all that you do?
God, thank you for this day. We thank you for Micah and his decision to follow you. We look forward to continuing to see him grow into the man of God that you desire for him to be. Give us wisdom as we support and guide him. May his life give you glory and show your love to those he comes into contact with. Amen.

What Are Thin Places?
"Thin Places" are rich in Celtic tradition. They are the places in our lives where the divine and the natural worlds come so close together that we can catch a glimpse of God. For the Celtics these places were very real - places within creation where we could physically go. The Thin Places in our own lives are those moments where the space between us & the Kingdom is thin, when we are introduced to a greater glimpse of Who He is through our experiences and through the stories of others.
