Thank God It’s Monday?

As a country I believe we are so geared toward ‘play’ and against ‘work.’ We live for the weekend and endure the rest.
I know that there are many people who feel stuck in their jobs and unfulfilled by the company they work for. I get that. I know how frustrating it would be to wake up Monday morning and feel like you have nothing to look forward to (at least for 5 more days).
I’m glad to say that I don’t have that problem. I love GiANT! I believe in who we are as a company and in what we do. I may have a Monday come along that I walk into feeling less than rested. In those cases, though, GiANT isn’t to blame - other factors are. Actually, many times I’m at fault for not having placed rest at high enough of a priority. I fall into the trap of ‘resting from work’ rather than ‘working from rest.’
Dan Cathy, President and Chief Operating Officer of Chick-fil-A, hit on this recently on his blog.
You see it on posters. It’s printed on coffee mugs. There’s even a restaurant that uses it as its name. But despite how often it pops up, it’s still one of the most subtly damaging ideas for your company and even your family. What is it?
“Thank God It’s Friday!”
Yes it’s playful and on some levels, just a silly phrase to say amongst coworkers on a Friday morning as the weekend sneaks into view. The problem though is all the ideas that ride on the coattails of that phrase. Because here’s what we really say when we say, “Thank God It’s Friday:”
- “I don’t like my job.”
- “My job is just something I have to do until I get to do the things I want to do on the weekend.”
- “Work is a chore and not fun and not enjoyable.”

What Are Thin Places?
"Thin Places" are rich in Celtic tradition. They are the places in our lives where the divine and the natural worlds come so close together that we can catch a glimpse of God. For the Celtics these places were very real - places within creation where we could physically go. The Thin Places in our own lives are those moments where the space between us & the Kingdom is thin, when we are introduced to a greater glimpse of Who He is through our experiences and through the stories of others.
