The Dangerous Church?

“Every church in America could be one big risk away from a breakthrough and a move of God like no one’s ever seen.” Perry Noble
This summer, during LifeChurch.tv’s OnePrayer movement, I heard a message from Perry Noble that I can’t shake. OnePrayer challenged churches to answer the question, “If God would answer One Prayer for the Church, what would you pray?” For Perry Noble, pastor of NewSpring Community Church in Anderson, SC, the prayer was, “Lord, make us dangerous.”
The Church has been called a lot of things, but ‘dangerous’ isn’t one of them. In fact, I think if you even took a survey of most church-going people in America you’d probably not find a majority who think of the church in this way (let alone those who aren’t connected to a church).
It’s a message that seems to still be stuck in Perry’s mind, as well. Last week during the Catalyst conference, Perry and Tony Morgan (also from NewSpring) made an appearance on CatalystBackstage.com. When Perry was asked what he was being pushed in his own leadership, he talked about how a lot of leaders are afraid to take risks. (Go to 2:40 on the video below for the discussion)

What Are Thin Places?
"Thin Places" are rich in Celtic tradition. They are the places in our lives where the divine and the natural worlds come so close together that we can catch a glimpse of God. For the Celtics these places were very real - places within creation where we could physically go. The Thin Places in our own lives are those moments where the space between us & the Kingdom is thin, when we are introduced to a greater glimpse of Who He is through our experiences and through the stories of others.
