The Hardest Thing to Give Up

I’m in the midst of some changes in my role at GiANT - things that will help me be able to focus my attention even more succinctly and things that will increase the impact that I will be able to have on what we are about as a company.
Sitting in some meetings this week, thinking and talking through other changes taking place, I realized that change is something that can be both good and bad, easy and difficult for people - depending on the situation and what is required.
- The perfect place to be in is one where you are responsible for doing the things that you are not only good at, but enjoy doing as well.
- The worst place to be in is one where you are responsible for things that you are not very good at, and do not enjoy, either.
- The hardest place to change from is one where you enjoy the things you do, but where you are not the best person to be doing them.
It’s easy to take things off your plate that are no fun and that you are no good at. When the situation allows, those things need to be moved to someone else. Sometimes that very move might be in moving you out of the company for the greater good. Hopefully, you have more to contribute in other areas and are just sitting in the wrong ‘seat.’
But, many times, the most needed change is in moving things into someone else’s space who can do more, and do better with them, even if they are things you enjoy.
We don’t always see ‘the greater good’ in those situations because our own desires can mask the fact that it isn’t the best fit.
What are the things that are a part of your space right now - things that you enjoy doing, even - that would do better in someone else’s hands?

What Are Thin Places?
"Thin Places" are rich in Celtic tradition. They are the places in our lives where the divine and the natural worlds come so close together that we can catch a glimpse of God. For the Celtics these places were very real - places within creation where we could physically go. The Thin Places in our own lives are those moments where the space between us & the Kingdom is thin, when we are introduced to a greater glimpse of Who He is through our experiences and through the stories of others.
