When Was the Last Time…

Heard on the radio this morning that LL Bean, which traditionally hires a massive seasonal staff to help “pull and pack” orders, has cut back dramatically on the amount of people they are hiring this year. The reason? Sure the economy is slower right now, but they had already filled most of their positions before the collapse hit. The fact is that they don’t have near the number of orders being placed over the phone, so there is less need for phone staff to be hired.
Not really surprised, but it got me thinking and wondering - when was the last time I ordered something over the phone?
I honestly cannot remember. I bet it has been at least eight years, if not in the 90s some time. I order most purchases online or travel to the store (or the bi-fecta: ordering online and picking up at the store!).
We’re trying to finish up our Christmas shopping and spent a good deal of time online researching, shopping around and ordering recently. I remember in the early 2000s when we actually ordered almost all our kid presents online for the first time and thought at the time about how amazing it was. Now it’s commonplace.
What about you? What was your last phone purchase?

What Are Thin Places?
"Thin Places" are rich in Celtic tradition. They are the places in our lives where the divine and the natural worlds come so close together that we can catch a glimpse of God. For the Celtics these places were very real - places within creation where we could physically go. The Thin Places in our own lives are those moments where the space between us & the Kingdom is thin, when we are introduced to a greater glimpse of Who He is through our experiences and through the stories of others.
