Where is the Church’s Voice?

Just watched a trailer for a great rockumentary coming out soon entitled “Call and Response.“ It features a coalition of artists and musicians who have developed a concert to raise awareness and raise money to help fight slavery, forced labor, child soldiers and sex trafficking.
If you want to watch the two minute trailer or read more about someone who got to see a sneak preview of the film, check out Brad Lomenick’s post on “Call and Response Rockumentary.“
What hit me watching it this morning was the final line of the trailer… “Never forget - Justice is what Love looks like in public.“
It is a great cause and one that could and should be as instrumental in making a difference in eliminating these atrocities as the great abolitionist movements of the past. What strikes me, however, is that why the Church has relegated it’s voice on social justice issues to the entertainment industry?
Maybe we haven’t. Maybe our voice just isn’t being heard with the same force as those coming from the mouths of celebrities in our society. But even then, shouldn’t it be?
Jesus: “My children, My time here is brief. You will be searching for Me, and as I told the Jews, “You cannot go where I am going.“ So I give you a new command: Love each other deeply and fully. Remember the ways that I have loved you, and demonstrate your love for others in those same ways. Everyone will know you as My followers if you demonstrate your love to others.“ - John 13:33-35, The Voice
“Never forget - Justice is what Love looks like in public.“ - Call and Response

What Are Thin Places?
"Thin Places" are rich in Celtic tradition. They are the places in our lives where the divine and the natural worlds come so close together that we can catch a glimpse of God. For the Celtics these places were very real - places within creation where we could physically go. The Thin Places in our own lives are those moments where the space between us & the Kingdom is thin, when we are introduced to a greater glimpse of Who He is through our experiences and through the stories of others.

Wow, LOVE that quote! “Justice is what Love looks like in public.“ Compassion too, I think.
