Writing Habits from Some of the Greats

Great article this week over at “Write to Done” (one of the blogs of Zen Habits founder, Leo Babauta) entitled “7 Writing Habits of Amazing Writers.”
Did you know, for instance, that Truman Capote, author of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “In Cold Blood” preferred writing while lying down in bed? Or that Stephen King keeps a strict 10 pages a day writing schedule, even on holidays? Check out the full article for more interesting habits of some great writers.
For me, I tend to do 80-90% of my writing early in the morning, usually after eating breakfast (currently a bowl of Special K Vanilla Almond) and with my coffee in hand. I try to read at least one chapter of my current book read and then grab my computer to hammer out any thoughts I have.
If I run out of time I’ll save the draft and try and finish during my lunch hour. I use a blogging tool for Macs called “Ecto” which enables me to save progress along the way and even schedule posts for future days (in the rare case that I have a lot to say on a given day).
What about you - when/where/how do you write best?

What Are Thin Places?
"Thin Places" are rich in Celtic tradition. They are the places in our lives where the divine and the natural worlds come so close together that we can catch a glimpse of God. For the Celtics these places were very real - places within creation where we could physically go. The Thin Places in our own lives are those moments where the space between us & the Kingdom is thin, when we are introduced to a greater glimpse of Who He is through our experiences and through the stories of others.
